My name is Christine Tavares and I am the Choral Director at Valencia High School. We are very happy to have you and your child involved in the choir. This year promises to be exciting and rewarding. Many benefits will come from the experience that your child will obtain from being in choir. The choral music program offers something for everyone! Music is one of the "multiple intelligences" that contributes to the development of each person. Music not only enriches a student’s life, but helps them learn in other areas of education and development. Performing helps students build their confidence, discipline, and self-esteem. Students also learn to work together through team-work and depending on each other. Many life long friendships are built in choir. More importantly, music is an outlet for enjoyment, creativity, and growing! It is my hope that when students look back at their time in the Valencia High School Choirs, they will realize that it wasn’t just about making music. It was about making and enriching one’s life. I will be distributing a handbook where you will find course outlines for each of the choral groups. In addition, the choral calendar is included in its first draft (dates will be added for festivals and other community performances), information about choral awards, officers, the choral contract, and behavior policies. Please read the handbook, sign the signature page at the end and return as soon as possible. In addition, please write all pertinent information on the "Activity Clearance Card," sign it, and return at the same time. Welcome to the choral music experience! I am excited and look forward to working with you and your child. I hope many of you become involved in our new "Choral Parents Association" (CPA). Included in your packet is information on CPA’s first meeting and what it’s all about. If you ever have any questions, I am only a phone call or email away.
