CHORAL MUSIC CONTRACT STUDENT’S NAME_______________________________________________
Please print legibly The above named student, as a member of the 2007 -2008 Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, Women’s Chamber Ensemble, Men’s Chamber Ensemble and/or Vocal Jazz/Chamber, hereby agrees to the following membership regulations and provisions: 1. Choral music is a yearly course, and all members, regardless of grade, are expected to remain in the class for the full year. Underclass students who drop at the semester may not be considered eligible for the advanced choral music groups during the remaining years at Valencia High School. 2. Choral music groups are concert-performing groups as well as academic classes. Members are required to attend all performances and rehearsals outside of school hours and to be regular in classroom attendance. Only serious illness or special permission from the director will excuse the student from a performance or rehearsal. A note from parent/guardian is expected after an absence from a performance or rehearsal. Any student who is inexcusably absent from a performance or rehearsal can expect his/her grade to be lowered one letter grade. 3. Members of choral music groups are expected to maintain all uniforms, dresses, costumes, etc., in a clean and neat condition. Outfits are the responsibility of the student until the end of the year. Outfits are not to be worn other than for performances and choral functions, without consent of the director. Fundraising opportunities will be given to all students to earn the cost of the uniforms. All students are encouraged to participate in fundraising activities. 4. Members of choral music groups will occasionally be absent from other scheduled classes for performances, rehearsals, or assemblies. The student must obtain permission for such required absences from each of his/her subject teachers one week in advance of the day the event is being held, so that arrangements can be made to make up any missed assignments in advance. 5. Members of choral groups must obtain permission from the director before attending any field trip/activity that would interfere with a regular choral performance of class. WORK IS NEVER AN EXCUSE FOR MISSING REHEARSALS OR PERFORMANCES. Schedules will be arranged well in advance of events. School MUST take precedence over work. 6. Members of choral music groups must remember that they are representing Valencia High School at all performances and must, therefore, conduct themselves with professional dignity and pride. 7. Members of choral music groups must maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average to be eligible to perform with the group. Students who are ineligible for more than one semester will be dropped from the class. 8. Members of choral music groups are responsible for all music distributed to them. Students will be required to reimburse the school for any lost or destroyed music. 9. Members of the choral music program must attend all classes on the days of performances. A doctor’s note is the only valid excuse. 10. All members of choral music groups are encouraged to refrain from any substance abuse, including tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. MEMBERS OF
AUDITIONED CHORAL MUSIC GROUPS HAVE EARNED A DISTINCT HONOR. IT IS DIFFICULT,
DEMANDING, REWARDING, AND A LOT OF FUN. IT IS ALSO A “TEAM SPORT.” MEMBERS
WHO FAIL TO MEET REQUIREMENTS HURT THE ENTIRE CHORAL GROUP!! EVERYONE IS
IMPORTANT AND MUST BE A LEADER. Student
