Valencia High School is particularly proud of its exceptional School-to-Career program. Through this program, all students, with the exception of severely handicapped students, are guided through a four-year process that illustrates the strong connection between education and future career options. Students are given the opportunity to develop a heightened awareness of their own individual strengths and interests, what options are available to them, what they need to do to plan for their future, and assistance in making the transition into post-high school life. The program also provides students with job shadowing, internship, and Career Path opportunities, further strengthening the connection between school and the world of work. The Career Path component of the School-to-Career program offers students 16 career pathways which lead to students in their chosen career path.

School-to-Career:

School To Career Facts (Power Point)

Students are introduced to the School-to-Career program at the beginning of their ninth grade year through the "Who Am I?" assembly, which is a collaborative effort between School-to-Career coordinators (including administration, and counseling and teaching staff) and the Destiny Foundation. During the assembly students gain an overview of the four-year program, the projects and activities they will participate in over the next four years, and encouragement to consider one or more of the 16 career pathways. The program activities and projects follow the sequence described below.

9th Grade:

Students are involved in curriculum that is introspective-based through their English class that focuses on the theme of "Who Am I?" Written projects, readings, and questionnaires reinforce this theme.

10th Grade:

Students explore the themes of "What Are My Interests?" and "What Are My Options?" by completing the Choices career inventory program in VHS's career center. Students are also invited to attend a two hour assembly entitled "The Value of An Education."

11th Grade

Students are required to complete at least one job shadow experience during the academic year. Students are also required to attend the daylong Connecting to Success Business Conference (This unique conference experience is the result of the combined efforts of Junior Achievement, Valencia Industrial Association, Destiny Foundation, Valencia High School, and local business sponsors.) Students will also complete and analyze a survey to discover their strengths and passions.

12th Grade

Students are required to complete a senior career project, which is the final phase of the program, addressing the theme "How Am I Going To Get There?" (Students enrolled in a Career Path are strongly encouraged to complete a project within their career path area.) Students will also attend workshops, financial literacy and ethics in the workplace, to better prepare them for the real-life challenge of adult life.
