FOODS AND NUTRITION 1A

In this one semester course, students will learn fundamental skills and knowledge for preparing, planning and evaluating various foods within each section of the food pyramid. Students will become familiar with how to balance a diet, how to serve food in an attractive manner, and how to maintain a sanitary work environment. The class fulfills the practical arts requirement for graduation. A contribution of $20 is appreciated.
FOODS AND NUTRITION 1B
Grades 9-12

Prerequisite: A grade of “B” or better in Foods and Nutrition 1A
This one semester course continues the basic foods class to a more in-depth study of food and its relationship to our body. Food science and nutrition will be the primary thrust of the curriculum. Students will prepare and serve more creative and difficult recipes. A contribution of $25 is appreciated.
ADVANCED FOODS – International Foods
Grades 10-12
Credits 5
Prerequisite: A grade of “B” or better in Foods and Nutrition 1A
This one-semester advanced course will focus on the cultural, geographical, and culinary connections from countries around the world. Through hands-on experience, students will gain a worldwide understanding of foods; a greater knowledge of geography; increased understanding of diverse cultures and customs; and food preparation techniques common to particular nations. A contribution of $25 is appreciated.
INTRODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY A
Grades 11-12
Credits 5
Prerequisite: A grade of “B” or better in Foods and Nutrition 1A
This one-semester advanced course will focus on the key aspects of the Food Service industry. The course will include in-depth, hands-on experiences that emphasize industry awareness, sanitation and safe food handling, food and beverage production and service, nutrition, food service management, and customer service. A contribution of $25 is appreciated.
INTRODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY B
Grades 11-12
Credits 5
Prerequisite: A grade of “B” or better in Foods and Nutrition 1A
This one-semester advanced course integrates various facets of the hospitality industry: lodging, travel and tourism; event planning; theme parks, attractions, and exhibitions; and recreation. The course will focus on specific industry segments, including industry awareness; organizational management; customer service; sales and marketing; facilities management; lodging; travel destinations; and reservations, ticketing, and itineraries. A contribution of $25 is appreciated.
